Vespa - Style, Speed And Machine Guns

Let’s get this straight from the off, the phrase ‘legendary’ is bandied around too much, but the Vespa scooter is legendary. A beautiful, popular and sleek scooter that is easy to ride and even easier to look good on, Vespa scooters are of Italian origin, and were inspired by the 1945 versions created by the Piaggio company. Piaggio manufacturers are now among the top brands building two wheeled vehicles in Europe.

Vespa is Italian for wasp, and the name could not be more suitable for this little machine. It is durable, sturdy, pressed steel and unstoppable. Testament to this, believe it or not, it has actually been modified and used by French armies in the past to be an antitank weapon and carried an M20 with 75 mm recoilless rifles. Looks to kill right?

The Vespa Scooter was also used to race in the 1900’s and were often winners in the motorcycle races, and as a result were very much became increasingly in demand. Sadly, as the motorcycle engine evolved scooters didn’t really present a challenge and races between the motorcycle and the Vespa slowly died out.

Moving on through history, in 1946 a true icon was born with the design that we’ve come to know, love and recognize as the Vespa and this classic has subsequently withstood the test of time, sports and war. It is an icon in many countries and has touched many regions across the globe claiming its place as an instantly recognizable brand in global markets.

Apart from those at the very top of the tree, whether on two or four wheels the name usually fades and becomes a legend. Exceptions to this rule include Ferrari, Porsche and Aston Martin. Like these manufacturers, rather than fading the Vespa name has evolved with the times and is undoubtedly still the one true sought after scooter in the world.

We can talk all we like about how well constructed Vespa’s are, but ultimately it’s those pretty looks that twist our arms. And if you’re sat atop a Vespa, it goes without saying that you need the very best scooter apparel to match the style beneath.

With its important role in style, motor spot and even war, the Vespa has claimed a position in history that few other brands can lay claim to. What’s even better is that you can own this important glimpse into the past for yourself and it will remain a timeless piece of history for many ages yet to come. The Vespa is here to stay, and it only gets better with time.
