How To Check A Car Title History

Before buying a car from a dealer, family member, friend, or stranger, you should check the car title history to confirm that it has a clean past and won't cause you headaches in the future. It is your responsibility to do this even if the car appears to drive well and has no visible damages. Here's what you should keep in mind when reviewing the car title history of an automobile that you're looking to purchase.

Understand the certificate
A car title is an official document of ownership issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles. It provides information about the car to a new owner. The certificate also has a vehicle identification number (VIN) that is unique to each car. Make sure that this number on the car title history matches the number on the car, usually printed on a strip on the car engine compartment, on the door jam on the driver's side, or on the dashboard.

Compare mileage
The car title history will also include information about the mileage on the date of the last sale of the car. You should compare this number with the car odometer. You need to make sure that the mileage indicator has not been tampered with, to make it appear that the car has fewer miles on it than it does.

Investigate potential hidden damage
If the car has had consistent mechanical trouble, damage from a fire or other natural disaster, or has been reported as stolen or involved in fraud, this will be indicated on the car title history. There will also be a report of previous emissions testing and title changes. Don't ignore these warning signs about the condition of the car you are thinking of buying.

Be aware of the red flag
A car may be officially labeled as "salvage", in which case the value will decrease significantly. Sellers may try to hide this crucial information from buyers by claiming that the car title history has been lost. Don't be fooled into believing this, as you can always request a duplicate copy of the car title history from the Department of Motor Vehicles.

What To Look For In A Used Car

If you are in need of a car, you may be considering looking at older models that might save you a few bucks, however, if you do not shop around and do your homework you may wind up with a car with more problems that will cost even more in the end.

Before you rush out and start looking at every used car wherever you can find them you should know a few things about cars and even where to look for a used car. You can look through ads in the local newspaper or even watch the television commercials to find various locations to purchase used cars from individuals to used car dealers to auctions. Now, you where to look, but how do you know you will find a car that will be dependable without major problems.

The very first advice is to steer clear of auctions. In most cases, at car auctions, you do not get the chance to check out the car at all. They just drive them in front of the bidders and then move them out once they have a winner.

You can visit individuals that have their used cars listed in the newspaper. Once again, if you do not know the person, you are at their mercy to be honest. They may not even allow you to test drive the car before you purchase. This is a huge mistake if you have any idea of how a car should feel while you are driving down the road.

A used car dealership is normally your best bet. Of course, you will still need to do your homework. Just because they have a used car on their lot, they may not realize all the problems the car may have under the hood. In the majority of times, the used car dealer took the car in as a trade in on one of their new models. This only means they may not know the problems. In some cases, the dealer may have even fixed a few of the problems. In your best interest, you should ask if they know if the car has any problems and learn if they did any type of repairs.

Drive the car! Take it out on the highway and let her rip! Does the motor sound right? Is the steering pulling one way or the other? This could be a sign that there is a problem with the main frame. Look for blemishes and differences in the color of paint, this might mean the car was in a wreck at one time. If so, there could more wrong that just cosmetic. Look for any fluid leaks under the car. Of course, you will more than likely see stains on the ground, but check and see if the fluid is dry or wet. If it is wet, then the fluid more than likely came from the car you are checking out.

Go For Lpg, The Greener, Cleaner & Cheaper Fuel

With Claims of tenfold increase in enquiries, and a quadrupling of sales, while dealers are claiming that LPG cars are guaranteed to sell used. Vehicle auction giant BCA recently reported a groundswell of interest in alternative fuelled vehicles with strong prices being paid at sales.

So what’s causing it? Well Its Fuel prices…. And people still needing to use their vehicles, but wanting to reduce their carbon footprint somehow. Motorists converting their cars from petrol to LPG can save up to 60p per litre, LPG currently costs 51% less than petrol - and 56% less than diesel. It represents quite a turnaround for the LPG car, which spent a few morose years in the doldrums following the Government’s decision to end grants under its PowerShift program.

LPG is well worth considering and you can either join the rush for the few LPG cars at auctions - or consider converting models yourself, with the help of a specialist. This generally costs £1,800, but you could try to strike a deal with a local convertor (approved, of course; be wary of non-approved conversions) as most garages will haggle to get the business.

With over 1400 LPG outlets in the UK now it’s even one less excuse not to convert to LPG and don’t worry the other common concern associated with this is “what if the LPG runs out?” well it will automatically change over to the petrol/diesel fuel supply. Even car leasing companies are starting to push out LPG cars directly from the manufacturer, and even Subaru seeing this is definitely the way forward and currently have a LPG forester which runs only on LPG.

Still not convinced? Well it may interest you to know that two years ago the Royal household ordered all of Her Majesty’s vehicles be converted to run on LPG in the interests of cutting the Royal fleet running costs and emissions. If the lady who owns half the country can see the financial and environmental sense, who are we to argue?

2008 Ford Focus: In Tune With The New Generation

The 2008 Focus’ interior now has an elegant stylish look. It is more spacious to accommodate the entire family. The seats are comfortable and protective even for long distance driving. Its driver seat is fully adjustable to accommodate people of different sizes. Its back seat is also comfortable and large. The steering wheel is wrapped in leather for better and precise driving.

The most startling addition to the 2008 Focus is the Sync system. This high-tech system allows the owner to make hands-free calls while driving. It also allows the driver to set digital audio players, without removing his/her hands from the steering wheel, through a voice-recognition system. It is also equipped with the standard six airbags for safety. Anti-lock brakes are available on an optional basis.

Its exterior was also refurbished. The hatchback design of its predecessors was removed. The 2008 Ford Focus now comes in coupe or sedan cars. Its SE cars’ alloy wheels are a standard 15-inch, while the SES versions have 16-inch alloy wheels.

Looking into the power and performance aspects, the new Focus has more power than the previous models. The 2008 Ford Focus has a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that provides 140 horsepower. It also has a five-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. You can also save some on fuel with the Focus’ latest version. It is estimated that you will consume only around 24 miles per gallon along the city and 35 mpg on the highway with the manual transmission. In automatic transmission, fuel economy is the same except that in the highway you will spend less fuel with only 33 mpg usage.

A silent drive can be expected in the 2008 Ford Focus whether in the city streets or on the highways. It is considered as the quietest car among its class. When it comes to prices, the car is relatively cheaper. Compared to the other cars, Focus costs less while having more features and a slightly powerful engine.

Ford has certainly succeeded in overhauling its Focus models including making Ford Focus contract hire popular. Although the body chassis is still the same, the additions have definitely made the 2008 Ford Focus more fun and comfortable to drive on for personal or contract hire users.

Chevrolet Body Kits—choosing The Perfect Body Kit

Chevrolet is no doubt part of an American heritage that witnessed the evolution of the automotive industry. Chevrolet has long been the most famous and largest vehicle in America and for those who drive them, there is no doubt of the statement they make just by parking a Chevy sports car or just by displaying a huge GMC truck.

A trait that goes along with their popularity is the fact that Chevrolet is the only automotive company in America that manufactures and produces vehicles that can easily be customized. Actually, no car manufacturer out there can match Chevrolet’s wide array of aftermarket parts available for their vehicles. Chevrolet prides itself with a variety of accessories and parts available for its vehicles.

If you are planning to customize or personalize your Chevrolet by using Chevrolet body kits, then keep in mind these very important reminders since customizing your Chevy can get quite complicated.

Before you go ahead and buy your Chevrolet body kits, make sure that you at least have a background about what body kits are all about. Knowing a little or at least something about body kits can help you make a better choice in picking the right kit for your car. Choosing the right kit for your car is essential because the correct kit stays with your car until it becomes unusable.

Nobody said it was that easy to choose the right Chevrolet body kits for your precious vehicle. To help you in picking the right Chevrolet body kits, I have prepared these six steps that you can follow to ensure that you are getting the value of your money in buying Chevrolet body kits.

Model and Make Year. Make sure that you order a body kit that is specifically made for your vehicle. Though this may seem really easy, many people always end up ordering a wrong body kit thinking that they customize it to fit. No matter how beautiful the design or style is, if it does not fit your car, then it will be useless. You have to be certain that the body kit you will order is specifically intended to fit the model of your vehicle.

Fiberglass or Urethane. Body kits are made of two basic materials: Fiberglass and Urethane. On one hand, Urethane is more dent resistant but if it gets severely damaged, it cannot be repaired. Fiberglass, on the other hand, breaks easier but can be repaired. Most people go for a fiberglass body kits, but Urethane can also be a good choice if there is a tendency for you to get too close when you drive.

Style or Look. Another thing you have to consider greatly is, of course, the look that you want to achieve. Creativity is limitless with the right body kits. Personalized your vehicle the way you want it to be. Just make sure that the body kits will really fit your car.

Finished Look of a Kit. The best way to look for the best Chevrolet Body Kits for your vehicle is by browsing pictures of it already installed in the car. You can check out ilovebodykits.com to see how cool the finished look will be.

Body Kits Painting. Think of how you will paint your Chevrolet body kits. Can you paint it all by yourself or are you going to let a body shop paint it for you? Are you going to let the kit be installed first and then painted or will it be painted first then installed? Usually, fiberglass kits are easier to paint. If you plan to install and do the painting job all by yourself, then fiberglass Chevrolet body kits will be easier to work with.

Installation Considerations. Lastly, you have to take note of installation considerations before ordering a kit. Make sure that the kit comes with a hardware to install it. If it doesn’t, then you have to order it together with the kit. You may also have to consider all the extra parts you are going to need. For instance, some body kits require dual exhaust. If your vehicle has only a single exhaust, you may need extra parts so the body kits can work.

Following these guidelines or steps will ensure that you are making an informed decision and give you the best value for your money in choosing the best Chevrolet body kits that will hopefully last for years to come.

Subaru WRX Performance Tips

by: Colin R. Hogue

Here are some easy tips that can be done to generate improved performance for your Subaru WRX next time it appears to be running a bit sluggish. Enjoy.

CHANGE YOUR OIL

This may seem obvious, but you would be surprised at how easy it is to forget or overlook. The owner's manual for the Subaru WRX suggests changing the oil every 7,500 miles under normal driving conditions. Under normal driving conditions? Seriously, who really drives a Subaru WRX normally? The owner's manual also suggests an oil change every 3,750 if you drive ir hard. Enough said. I think we all know which of these recommendations to follow.

PROPERLY GAPPED SPARK PLUGS

The proper spacing for a 2002 - 2003 Subaru WRX is 0.028"-0.031" (0.7-0.8 mm). If you have a different year of Subaru WRX, refer to your owner's manual for proper specs. This tip may seem a bit petty, but any extra power that can be had for free is worth the time and effort.

CLEAN YOUR AIR FILTER

The manufacturer/stock Subaru WRX air filter leaves somthing to be desired, but if you don't have the extra cash to purchase an aftermarket air filter, please make sure your stock filter is clean. The more air that gets to the engine, the more power you have. Seems simple so far, right?

USE PREMIUM GASOLINE

With gas prices being what they are at present, I know that this is a hard-to-swallow tip at this time. Gas is not cheap, and premium gas can never be purchased at a price that makes it a deal, but you are driving a Subaru WRX, afterall. So, spring for the good stuff! Your Subaru WRX deserves nothing less than the best.

The next few tips are more involved; however, we are dealing with the Subaru WRX. Extra time and effort results in improved driving performance so it is well worth it.

TRY INSULATING YOUR FUEL LINES

Insulating the fuel lines of your Subaru WRX permits the temperature of your fuel to remain cooler which allows more fuel to enter the combustion chamber in addition to permitting more airflow through the chamber as well. Consequently, the more fuel and air that you have moving through the chamber of your Subaru WRX, the more power you will have to work with.

The simplest way to accomplish this is with air conditioning / refrigerator insulation which you can get from any hardware store.

YOUR SUBARU WRX NEEDS TO LOSE SOME WEIGHT

This is a matter of basic physics. Less weight + more power = better performance. The less weight your WRX has to lug around, the better it will perform in every category. So, take an inventory of what has accumulated in your trunk from time to time and make sure to empty it every so often!

Well that's all I can think of for now. Stay tuned for more tips to improve your Subaru WRX.
