Land Rover Evoque: 2012 Suv Of The Year

For a true purist, an SUV is a body-on-frame design, not the modern evolution known as the crossover. If you want a true SUV, why buy a large body plastered on a car frame? Surely, the vehicle will not stand up to heavy use. Of course, crossovers are only meant to give the appearance of being more roomy than the car they are based on. Usually, their form does not follow the intended function of the SUV. The 2012 Motor Trend SUV of the Year does; however, blend SUV function with crossover form.

The exterior of the 2012 Range Rover Evoque features an aggressive stance, large wheels, raked windshield, and a daring swept back roof line. Moving inside, you will find a dedication to luxury and comfort that many have come to expect from Land Rover models. The raked roof does not compromise head room and cargo space is readily available for any shopping trip.
By using plenty of aluminum and composites, the model shed 350 pounds from its predecessor the LR2. The weight loss drops 2 seconds off the vehicle's 0-60 (compared to the LR2), increases average skidpad holding by more than 0.05 g, takes more than a second off the quarter-mile time, and more than a second and a half off its figure-eight time. The Evoque is the first Land Rover to not have a V8 power plant. It is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged supplied by Ford Motors.

The Evoque is an awesome vehicle for today's market. Great form combined with function is always a sure bet in the automotive industry. The $43,995 price tag may hinder sales in the current economy, but luxury brands are seeing sales increases, so the Evoque may not a have any trouble finding a market in North America.
